Data products for complex organisations
I work across data access, competing definitions, pipelines, analysis and review. The result is a product that makes a complex system easier to understand and act on.
Selected work
The subjects change. The work consistently starts by understanding how data, definitions and decisions interact in practice.
Public health
A regional dashboard that brought access, definitions, review and technical delivery into one product.
Construction safety
A simulation exposed a cyclist queue beside an active lifting zone and supported a safer operating plan.
Independent product
Bliep combines firmware, electronics, hardware and an app in a small mesh radio.
Public data lab
The lab contains small research projects built from public data. Each project states its status, sources, method and limitations.

Writing
Notes and longer articles about data work, technical decisions and project delivery.
Intuition develops through repeated experience and quick feedback. Large systems provide neither, so experts need data and models to see beyond their own part of the system.
Building the 22-page Power BI dashboard took about eight months. Data access, indicator selection, definitions and review accounted for most of the remaining ten.
An artificial intelligence assistant directed me to a compromised conversion site. A fake CAPTCHA then instructed visitors to run malware through the Windows Run dialog.
Working together
I take on a limited amount of independent work. A useful first message describes the problem, the available data and what has already been tried.
